“Dedicated to Hans family and friends” David at La Unica

August 1, 2009

”I really find this man David and his wife Catherine to be true heroes…. They are the leaders of LA Unica, childcare centre, Lusigeti and are fighting for the education of 197 children… where 38 are orphans enroll for free.” Greetings Pappa HANS

photo1davidsfamilyLots of greetings from David and family.  Hope you are all right from the other side of the globe.

Us we are fine trying hard to make ends meet.

Happy because we receive your gift.  Pass our regards to all who made that effort.  Everyone is happy including our friends-congratulations God Bless you all.  Slow response though- but my father passed away this very month-already buried.  Sorry to say so.  This world is not our home.
Find the whole family in the photo, from right standing:- Andrew, Gerald, myself and Catherine.  Seated is the youngest baby then Purity and Charity.  Big family, you see:  However we received other presents later and we have done the staffroom-almost through-photo to be sent when complete.
May you have a nice time with all, continue with your togetherness and may God Double your loving Spirit.
 From: David and Family.”

My reply:

Hello my friend… (please print this so Catherine can read it as well) dont worry about the silence… life goes on here as well… luckily enough noone has died though…

I have taken the privilige of putting your nicely put letter on the blogg… people here are so far away of understanding even me is having a hard time understanding things… even though I have been visiting you…

I really love the names charity and Purity… what´s the babys name =)

Every day while I have been painting my house I have thought of Kenya and you. I really left a big portion of me in your country… I try and do my best to do what I can… Always fall short though… Every litre of paint…. It really bugs me… I will continue to encourage my students to have you at La Unica in mind during their schoolprojects… I have vowed to keep the bridge open.. and that I can do… I saw so much poverty in Kenya that it almost broke my heart… hope you will continue to send good pictures and never give up…. I will continue to ask and not give up… the best thing is if I could find a company that would take LA Unica under its arms (lets say 150 USD amonth) and get goodwill from it… having their logo next to yours… on a new painted school house… that is my vision for what I hope to be able to give you eventually…

God bless you both David and Catherine and all your great kids… Great the kids at LA Unica from me and give all the mothers in the women group…

Hugs from HANS

PS: I read the letter to my wife… My wife says that my vision might sound as a promise…. I know you understand the meaning of “vision”… You have drawn me a map of your vision of LA Unica and given it to me…. hoping that your vision one day will come true… so it is with my vision, knowing that it might not be, but we need to have a vision… … “without visions the people perish”… I need to exercise some faith in my vision as you have done in yours…

Spring 2009 – Student projects at Sannarp

June 18, 2009

The spring started real well fullfilling the years scholarship for Sara Ombati and Teresiah Kihuyu with PA Dress Kenya project (3700 SEK) and a teacher donation (500 SEK)

- On top of the goal of fundraising these two personal scholarships….

…Funds towards La Unica Child Care Centre this spring are 3780 SEK. Two groups of students at Sannarpsgymnasiet Halmstad did discos for kids in Östergård and Getinge (1000 & 2780)

…And clothing in the blue packages are sent today. The postage 371 SEK for each package of 5 kg is financed from selling second hand clothing and items given to “Pappa Hans” by PA students, Sannarpsgymnasiet and Friskis&Svettis Gym (people tend to forget some clothes after lifting weights…)

Im happy to be able to vouch with my good name that funds will reach intended hands and purpose. I salute all that has helped out this spring. Thank you all!  I invite all who wishes to contribute in some way or another… The needs are never ending. Remember: “Noone can do everything but all can do something…”

I came yesterday from home as I had to arrange for susan,Phillips sister who was going back to school today in Form one.Everything went on well as the burial was on Thursday, but a very painful moment coz the children now are left as opharns. Dad passed in feb 2003 and the Mum now. There is a big task again ahead but I believe all will work well with trust and believe in God especially to the 2 dotter who were left at school.Phillip also completed his school and he got a D+.Not a very bad grade.”

To whom it may concern

December 10, 2008

pic-2My aim has been to build bridges between less fortunate and families fortunate to be able to help other families, my name is the guarantee of that the help reaches its target. This I intend to do all my life. I am a high school teacher with 6 student groups at the moment who is working towards sponsoring people and a school in Kenya. I call it KenyAID, even though I do not have an organisation, just excellent trustworthy contacts and have been to Kenya and met the people myself.

I feel good working with these issues, it fills my inner soul of doing my part in society to fight poverty by working towards scholarships, but I am not with means to do it the way I have been doing the last two months. I need a fresh new start and in this I am all open for ideas and help. I have met with the right people in Kenya, people trustworthy and eager to help with what they can.

My last months service have been very stressful and have taken to much time in proportion to what I started out aiming at. It just happened that one of my friends in Kenya mentioned two girls in need, and I have not been able to climb this mountain. It would be a lot less stressing for me to have all my students finish their projects during next year and then look for good roads to take, sponsoring either persons or the little small poor school LA Unica that I visited, instead of having been given names first and then look for sponsors, as I have felt needed to do the last months.

Pure numbers:

Teresiahs debt 430 USD and next years costs are 250 USD

Saras debt 300 USD and next years costs are 250 USD

730 USD before new year and then for next year an additional 500 USD All in all 1230 USD

The donations that I have actually received so far totals in 230 dollars. Some more hopefully comes soon. Every dollar is worth a lot!

My contributing is meant to be service, not funds and I would be very happy to be able to start next year with just the challenge of building bridges and helping my students do their part.

Info sent from my contact/teacher friend Robert

”One is called Sarah Ombati, she is in Form 3 and she is 15yrs old. She is very bright but comes from a very poor family. Her father is a casual worker so he is on and off work with no stable source of income. Her mother is tailor who mends clothes and the job is unreliable. In her primary school exams she got 395 out of 500 marks. Since she entered this school she has maintained either position 1 and 2 despite the fact that she is often send home because of fees. She hopes to be a neuro-surgeon when she finishes her education. They live in a two roomed house with no electricity and running water. At the moment she has a balance of 22,000 kshs as school fees. As for next year when she is in form 4 she will be required to pay about 10,000 kshs and if she will not  have paid by January the balance then she will be forced to go home. If she continues with her good performance I am sure she will go to the university.

The other one is called Teresiah Kihuyu, age 17yrs and in form 3. comes from a very poor family where the parents are self employed and have a small land where they grow cabbages to sell. They are 9 children in the family but only 3 of the children are in school because the parents can’t afford school fees. She was forced to stay home for about six months because of school fees. Her father’s inability was a result of a hospital bill he had to pay of the sister who had gotten an accident in school while doing an experiment in the laboratory. Despite her being sent home often she often does well in class. Last term she had a B-. She hopes to be a lawyer or architect. Up to now, she has a fee balance of 31,000ksh. Next year she will be required to pay about 10,000 ksh for her form 4 exams.

Well Hans, sorry for giving you all this issues, but I hope and trust that out there they are good people who would be willing to assist the less fortunate. I believe you saw for yourself how people live and survive and any kind of help would be welcome. I know with your blog page the two students might just get some assistance.

By the way, our Red Cross Club won the national first aid competition. It was tough but we managed to defeat all the other teams from all over the country. This is our second year as champions. I hope next year we shall win and retain the trophy for good. I was also voted the most active patron and the most active club in our branch.Yours friend Robert

I recieved following info 1/10 from my teacher friend Robert As for the two girls, they normally depend on bursary if lucky given by the constituency development fund which gives assistance to needy student. The bursary normally ranges between 2500 to 8000 hence they are always left with a balance. This term they were not lucky to get the bursary. Fees per year is normally 18000kshs. As for next year, the girls will be required to pay 18000 but they pay in installments of 10,000 the first term and the balance divided between 2nd and 3rd term, next year will be their last so any assistance will only be for one year. I have faith that these two girls if assisted  can achieve they goals and become great people who can help others in future.  As for the information about the bank, its MOI GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL, KAMANGU. Account no. 100-098-956 Savings account (Kenya Commercial Bank, kikuyu branch, kenya). SWIFT code: KCBLKENY

I am all ears for any offer of advice or funds. I enclose a linc http://pappahans.wordpress.com/2008/11/26/the-leaflet-flyer/ to the flyer that I have made for the Christmas gift. Look through the blog carefully and see for yourself www.pappahans.wordpress.com Should I start an organisation? Please advice me

Yours Sincerely,

Hans Strandberg (Pappa Hans)

Christmas approaching, gifts of concern

November 25, 2008

p10100541 Need help finding the right Christmas gift?

well for the ones that have everything already, child or grown up I suggest a more lasting gift. A gift to a third person who really needs the sponsorship.

Consider this! Teresiah Kihuyu needs help with her schoolfee, so that she can finish High school.

Those of you that know me, or my kin, will trust me, but of course the ones out there that do not have yet got to know me and what I stand for it must be harder. Please click through this blogg and learn for yourself. Im a teacher in Sweden www.student.hittahit.nu

No one can do all but all can do something. Thats my aim for christmas.

the letter from my friend Robert in Kenya with Teresiahs background:

“Teresiah Kihuyu, age 17yrs and in form 3. comes from a very poor family where the parents are self employed and have a small land where they grow cabbages to sell. Despite her being sent home often she often does well in class”

If you sponsor this girl with an amount as small as 15 dollars, I will send you a DVD movie from my travelling in Kenya this year! the full amount of 15 dollars will go into the fund of sponsoring Teresiah and my contribution will be to copy the DVD and send it to you for free. My desire is both to help Teresiah, but also to spread knowledge about differences in the world. You will have a good educational time watching the film. If you wish to sponsor, but dont want the film, thats fine as well of course.

Lin, one of my readers, have got the DVD sent to her and of what I hear from her she is very pleased.

My mom has told me to write proper English on this blog and I do try, please forgive me for not writing as well as you do.

Please ask me any questions you like. I don’t have to publish the comment if you do not like! Please communicate!

Teresiah needs about 30 X 15 dollars to help her not getting kicked out of school after Christmas.

(The picture is me pointing at Kenya on a plastic globe that I sent to Robert and his works school. The only globe they had at the school was a smaller, also inflatable.)

Quite hectic, but Oh what a 10 days…. I have friends down in Kenya longing for others to come, and they will show you around. Organizing both housing and transport, all safe.

Its hard to leave Kenya behind, once there, one has to bear that in mind, but thats life isnt it.
